Mexican Fiesta
For my father's 80th birthday, we celebrated with a Mexican Fiesta theme. The party tent was decorated with DIY sombreros, tissue flowers and a pinata that I made to go along with colorful table cloths and Mexican table runners. Music play lists were created in advance to play in the background during the party.
We had a photobooth with a Fiesta backdrop I purchased from Amazon. Color props, wigs, hats and costumes were available for fun family photos. We also hired a photographer to take family portraits at the beginning of the party.
Yard games including washer toss, bean bag toss, ring toss and a golf simulator provided entertainment for all ages throughout the day.
Of course, there was lots of delicious food set up buffet-style, starting with appetizers, and followed by Mexican chili, a taco-bar, various salads and casseroles for the main course. Homemade lemon chiffon cake, lemon blueberry cake and carrot cakes were served for dessert.
The Party Tent
It's all about the atmosphere!
To create a Mexican Fiesta party atmosphere, I searched on Pinterest to find some ideas and created a vision board. About a month before the party, I started making my decorations for the tent. I purchased most of my craft supplies locally at Michaels and dollar stores.
Supplies for Sombrero Pots:

Terracotta pots and bases

Acrylic Paints and brushes

Glaze and foam brushes

Pom-poms
-
Glue gun and glue sticks

Succulents or cactus plants or tissue flowers
Directions:
1. Before painting, apply a thing coat of glaze on all sides of the pots and bases with a foam brush. Let dry completely.
2. Base coat the pots on all sides and edges. Apply light coats to completely cover.
3. Use accent colors to create patterns over the base coat. Be creative!
4. Dry completely, then apply one or two coats of glaze/varnish over the paint to seal. Let dry completely.
5. For the sombrero base, use a glue gun to add some pom-poms.
6. For the flower pots, use plants like succulents or cactuses. Or you can use some small tissue flowers.
How to Make a Pinata
Supplies:

Crepe paper and/or crepe party streamers

Construction paper

Glue gun and glue sticks

Scissors
-
Patio lantern
Directions:
1. Cut crepe paper into long strips, or use crepe party streamers. Cut slits along length.
2. Starting at the bottom of the patio lantern, glue layers of the crepe strips until the lantern is covered from bottom to top. Use various colors if desired.
3. Add decorations cut from construction paper over top of the layers to make a face.
4. Fill the pinata with candy and surprises, then cover the hole with cardboard. Put a piece inside the patio lantern and one on the outside. Glue well.
5. Add streamers to the bottom.
