Winter Gardening

For the past few years, I have been doing a lot of winter gardening. It started with bringing in my geraniums so that I could reuse them the following season. Then I purchased grow lights to start my seeds inside until it was warm enough to transfer my plants to my greenhouse. My latest addition was an AeroGarden that I use to grow fresh herbs, all year long. My next experiment will be to grow microgreens to have fresh all winter.

Greenhouse Gardening

About ten years ago, I got my first greenhouse. Working outside in the spring is so rewarding and relaxing after a long, dark winter! I start my seeds in my house and then put my plants in the greenhouse until it's warm enough outside to plant. I'm to the point where a second greenhouse is being considered! The temperature in the greenhouse is warmer than outside. It's controlled by an automatic vent in the roof.

AeroGarden

Having fresh herbs to use in cooking is a huge necessity in my house. My AeroGarden is really easy to use and it's amazing how quickly plants grow. I have grown a variety of herbs including basil, dill, parsley, marjoram, oregano and mint so far. The lights can be programmed to turn on and off to help with natural growing cycles. My orchids also love the light it provides!

Indoor Grow Lights

My gardening addiction gets a little bigger every year! I've learned a lot about gardening from my father, who grew up on a farm. He taught me how to start seeds inside using fluorescent lights. We purchased some lights at Princess Auto, which I have set up in my storage/pantry. Last year I bought the plant shelf from Amazon to expand my growing. I start vegetables and flowers in March, then move them to my greenhouse in early spring.
